Soaking up the Views
The reborn Headlands Hotel makes the most of the vistas.
The Headlands Hotel, just north of Wollongong, is a $25m new development that makes the most of the unrivalled position, allowing patrons to enjoy dramatic uninterrupted views up and down the coast. That said, the venue is very exposed to the elements.
The developers John Stevens and Graeme Charles (of the Stevens Group) and Steven Bayer from Edmiston Jones architects knew that alfresco heating would be an integral part of the venue design, to ensure the comfort of its customers for as much of the year as possible.
The Stevens Group engaged Bromic to come out on site and consult on the design. The heating needed to be effective, even in windy conditions, and couldn’t impinge on the views in any way — “we didn’t want any ugly red strips or big, black bars hanging down,” noted Headlands Hotel GM Andrew Biggs.
It was decided that the Platinum Smart-Heat™ Electric II was the perfect solution. Heating up to 6sqm per heater, the Platinum Electric is a high performing, extremely efficient heater that is slimline and can be flush mounted into the ceiling as if it’s almost invisible. Allowing patrons to remain warm and not impinging on their view in anyway. Andrew Biggs continues: “They’re virtually unrecognisable as heaters and they’re very effective.”
